The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) Explained

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) is a move by the UK government to cut down carbon emissions and tackle fuel poverty head-on. It’s the 4th phase of this program, running from 2022 to 2026. The goal is to help low-income and vulnerable households become more energy efficient.

Who Funds ECO4?

Major energy suppliers are the funders of this boiler upgrade scheme. Large energy companies are mandated by the government to help improve your home heating systems and reduce overall energy usage.

What’s an EPC rating?

EPC stands for Energy Performance Certificate. It’s a rating system that tells you how good or bad your boiler is at saving energy. ‘A’ means you’ve got a really efficient boiler. Each letter following this is a little less energy-efficient. When you hit ‘G’, that’s the worst-rated boiler in terms of energy preservation.

Why should you care? Two main reasons: lowering your energy bills and helping the environment. The better your EPC rating, the less you spend on energy bills. And a better EPC rating means your home wastes less energy, which is good news for the planet.

Why You Should Consider the Boiler Upgrade Scheme

01

No Skyrocketing Energy Bills

Switching to a new gas boiler can significantly reduce your energy bills. We’re talking about potentially slashing your bills by up to 30%.

That’s because a boiler with a 94% efficiency rating only wastes 6% of the fuel it uses. The heat exchanger on a condensing boiler is bigger, so it can capture more heat and stop hot gases from going out of the flue pipe.

An older boiler model, operating at an average efficiency level between 60% and 70%, would waste approximately 35p for every £1 spent on heating. As you can see, the difference can add up to quite a lot.

The average utility cost per year is £983.21 for a 2-3 person household in the UK. If you got a new boiler with a 30% increase in efficiency, you would save around £344 over a year. Over 10 years, this would be over £3000, which you could save.

02

Environmental Impact

A new model can help reduce your carbon footprint because it emits less CO2. So you get some bonus points for being conscious about conservation. As emissions are one of the primary contributors to air pollutants and climate change, even small steps to reduce them matter.

03

Reliability and Safety

Newer boilers are more reliable, so much so that they often come with a 10-year warranty. They include the latest safety features, such as lower water cutoffs, balanced fuel usage, and overheat cutoffs. Giving you peace of mind, you and your family are safe.

04

Boost Your Property Value

Do you plan to sell your house? Investing in a new boiler now could be a great way to increase your home’s value down the line. Your boiler’s condition will be attractive to potential buyers, and knowing they won’t have to deal with boiler replacement also holds weight when selling a home.

05

Peace of Mind with a Warranty

Our boilers come with a 1-year warranty, so you have peace of mind over the coming year once the boiler is fitted. You can also extend the warranty by contacting the respective boiler company just before your initial warranty expires. Usually, they can offer up to 10 years of assurance. Any faults or issues during that period will be fixed at no extra cost.

06

Effortless Operation with Smart Technology

Don’t put up with a boiler that’s base level in terms of operation. With an ultra-smart boiler, you can:

  • Control heating from your smartphone
  • Adjust settings on the go
  • Set your boiler to heat your home just in time for your arrival

07

Reduced Noise Pollution

Energy-efficient models of boilers have been engineered to work more quietly for a more peaceful and inviting home atmosphere. So there will be no more wake-up calls at 6 am when the boiler clicks on and starts growling.

08

Enjoy a Warm Home, Faster

We know it can be frustrating waiting for your home to warm up after cranking up the thermostat. A newer boiler can be just the thing to combat the chill of winter. It can heat your home more quickly than an old model.
